When I was younger I believed there was something When I was younger I believed there was something "wrong" with me because it was so easy for me to self-entertain and keeping my own company was natural for me. I never really felt an overwhelming need to pursue friendships when I had my thoughts and my creative interests to keep me company. Being told consistently that I was too quiet, being asked if everything was ok because I wasn't talkative, etc, only reinforced the notion that I was different in some way. My behaviour was always seen as negative because of society's expectations that everyone should be outgoing, bubbly, talkative, and the life of the party. I am none of those things, lol. For the longest time, I believed 2 things were true - 1: something was actually wrong with me, it was clear even to me that I was different than the world around me. 2: but that I'd eventually grow out of it and blossom into an extroverted Cinderella. Boy, was I wrong! I never blossomed into that vision of myself, and I later realized that that was ok. My AH-HA moment came in my late 20s when I came across this book "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain. It was a revelation for me, finally understanding what introversion really was and that there was nothing wrong with me. I was finally able to understand and appreciate my personality and figured out ways of coping with the world in ways that worked for me. I believe that we're all on a scale, some of us are more socially inclined while others are less so. And both are great! Having a mix of both personality types is important for our societal growth even if it's not apparent. If any of this resonates with you, I would highly recommend picking up "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" because at least for me it was eye-opening. And let me be the first to tell you if no one has before, there is nothing wrong with you, we are all different and those differences are what make our world a better place. Remember that. My vision for this illustration when I sat down to create this cutie was to incorporate a folksy vibe into a butterfly's shape. The season is slowly starting to shift here in Can The season is slowly starting to shift here in Canada. The leaves of trees are changing from bright green πŸƒ to sunset orange πŸ‚.
