Today’s stream will focus on doing a painting study. I am still undecided whether to do a study of a landscape or portrait. (It will likely be a portrait) :P

Update

This is the final image after ~4 hours of painting. To be continued next Sunday.

W.I.P – Powerpuff Girls

Digital, W.I.P.

It’s been a while since I last posted something, so I figured I’d post a work in progress of an exercise I am working on at the moment.

I have recently been watching a lot of stuff from Concept Cookie and in particular, their video tutorials hosted by Tim Von Rueden. The one that peaked my interest “buds” was from one of his previous livestream video’s of a painting exercise of the Powerpuff Girls. (View Tim’s finished piece here – awesome stuff!)

What a great exercise for thinking about light, shadows/cast shadows, form and colour. So I decided to follow suit and try my hand at painting the same subject matter. So far it’s been quite challenging to work on but I am learning a lot and I am having fun in the process. Win, win, right!?

Here’s a sneak peak:

100 Drawings Challenge

W.I.P.

So I have decided that I want to take up drawing again. I used to draw non-stop for years, although as I grew older and life started to take hold, drawing became less significant in my daily life. Once and a while I would try my hand at doing something artistic, but honestly since I hadn’t drawn in some years, I felt I lost the knack of things. Drawing became more difficult and over time I got discouraged and slowly gave up my dreams of becoming an artist.

Lately I’ve noticed myself seriously missing my hobby, due in part from a recent purchase of a printer! Now that I can scan, copy and print anything I want, whenever I want, I feel that I must begin creating again.

I’ve got the eye and love for drawing, what I lack is the patience to follow through with my ideas and to perfect my skills. Thus, why I have decided to take the 100 Drawings Challenge! This challenge is composed of a list of words in which I will use to draw! Plain and simple really. I understand that this challenge will only help me develop my drawing skills if I invest the time necessary for each set of drawings. I do not expect this challenge to be a quick and easy one, since I do want to take it seriously. Patience will be key here for me!

In preparation for this challenge I have purchased a small drawing book that I can take with me anywhere I go, that way I can draw whenever I want. Hopefully this will help to encourage my efforts! I will also try to post my drawings as I go along. Wish me luck with this challenge, I hope to learn much from this experience!

I will try to periodically update this page with the drawings that I have completed. I am not limiting myself to  one drawing per #, so it may be possible to see links to multiple drawings for each. We will see what this leads to. Good luck and good drawing to those who choose to do the same challenge as I have!

WIP – Korra

W.I.P.

Just got Paint Tool SAI and I thought I would give it a whirl. So far I have to say that I am impressed with how easy it is to use and how quickly you can get stuff done compared to other software. I am enjoying the simplicity and the ease of use.

Like I mentioned I am giving PTS a whirl, and started a portrait of Korra. From initial sketch drawing to the layout of base colours, total time is around 3 hours. I gotta say for what I got done, that is pretty quick….I’m usually much slower to progress.

Anyway, here is my work-in-progress so far. Let’s hope I manage to finish it! :)

*UPDATE*
I finally finished this piece, YAY, I redid it like 20 times…. But it was worth it, I’m happy with the results.

WIP – Sansa Portrait

W.I.P.

This is my first real attempt at painting a portrait realistically. I chose to paint Sansa Stark from HBO’s A Game of Thrones series.

The portrait was drawn using a grid system and a reference photo (reference photo included below). I’ve begun to paint in the colours, and I would like to point out that it is still in a very rough draft state. It still requires quite a bit more work and adjustment.

I’ve been primarily working on it during my lunch breaks at work.

So here it is…

W.I.P.:. June 16, 2012 Updates

W.I.P.

It’s been months and months since I last posted something. And honestly it’s also been months since I last worked on anything interesting. Seems I am going through some serious ‘artist’s block’ at the moment.

Having said that, I wanted to post some of my recent, and not so recent, works-in-progress that I hope to one day finish!
